This course offers a comparative look at the travel market over the world, stressing the specific factors of  mass tourism in Russia development. We’ll recall the factors and laws that determined the formation of the world tourism industry focusing on geopolitical aspects of mass tourism development. At the same time we’ll compare the specific features of tourism development in the Soviet Union and contemporary Russia (theories, frameworks and approaches). We will examine theoretical and methodological approaches to the tourism’s role in economic development of a country, tourism development at the time of an economic slowdown, stressing the specific features of  tourism and hospitality business in Russia. The second part of the course is aimed at close examination of types of tourism, including resources, current situation and trends at world destinations. Special attention will be devoted to the destinations of Russia: famous ones, such as Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Sohci, and less famous like Kasan’, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Archangelsk, etc
